Tabletop re-do

I've had this table for a while. It's a very common style, kinda plain, butcher block-ish top. It was free though, so I'm not complaining. About a year ago, I had painted the legs white. I left the top as is because I was unsure about what I wanted to do with it.
Last week I was inspired to give staining a try (my very first time)...and probably last.

This was the table before:
isn't the artwork beautiful? It's also all over my walls...

...
Here is the after:

It's not super perfect, but I'm happy with it, and HEY LOOK - It matches my beautiful
dining cabinet I got a few weeks ago at the habitat re-store.

The chairs are still a bit awful, which is why they aren't pictured.
One step at a time.

let there be light

I know, it's another lamp makeover. What can I say...I need LAMPS! This one just happened to be 5.99 at Goodwill. The shade, I purchased at Walmart, it was a splurge (at walmart...HA). I really am cheap.

Ok here is the before :Yucky nasty lamp base
(my husband seems to think it wasn't so bad, but I couldn't deal with the rust and brassiness)

Here is the glorious after: pretty white

It brings me great joy and great light.

Mobile blogging

I've been looking for a great app to update my blog from the phone. I came across blogpress in the iPhone app store. It seems wonderful so far.

On a side note:

You can find the cutest vintage buttons on some of the most hideous clothing found in thrift stores.

old wooden child's desk

This sweet little child's desk was a $20 garage sale purchase. It is absolutely charming and so rustic. I will probably not be painting this one.

a few lovelies

I like when I am able to purchase things that make me utterly happy every time I look at them.
Here are a few of my favorite thrift finds.

Isn't this a beauty!
I found it at a habitat for humanity re-store for $99.
My dad in law did a little work to bring it back to life.
I absolutely love it.

These sweet little candlesticks used to be brass.
Not that there's anything wrong with that; but it's not really my thing.
They are now gorgeously light turquoise.
$6 for the set.

These might not strike everyone's fancy.
I, however fell in love with them.
I originally bought them ($3) to smother in a coat of white or turquoise paint.
...but after taking them home, I decided they are cute as they are.
Excuse the hideous purple wall behind them (I would like to change that asap)
